First Responders Slide into Victory at Kickball Showdown

Geauga County first responders and behavioral health professionals faced off in a game of kickball Sept. 20 in Munson Township aimed to build community bonds.

“This event was all about connection,” said Christine Lakomiak, executive director of Geauga County Board of Mental Health and Recovery Services in a Sept. 23 press release. “Seeing first responders, behavioral health staff and their families come together in such a positive way show the strength of our community.”

The Geauga County Sheriff’s Office easily clutched victory in a game “filled with laughter, teamwork and big plays,” the release said, adding the event was well attended with more than 60 people present across players and spectators.

“Organizers were thrilled with the turnout and positive energy from both teams and spectators,” the release said. “With families filling the stands and kids joining in the cheers, the night was a celebration of partnership and camaraderie.”

Plans are underway to turn the match into an annual event and possibly even a full tournament.
