Geauga County first responders and behavioral health professionals, who often work together in difficult situations, again had an opportunity to connect with one another and their families in a relaxed setting.
The Crisis Crushers won the second annual kickball tournament on Sept. 24, defeating the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office team 5-1. This year’s event expanded to four teams, with the Geauga County Prosecutor’s Office joining for the first time. The Crisis Crushers, Social Butterflies, Incarcerators and Bureau Ballers competed in the tournament, with Judge Terri Stupica serving as referee.
After the championship game, Lt. James Jovovich presented the trophy on behalf of the winning team to Christine Lakomiak, Executive Director of the Geauga County Board of Mental Health and Recovery Services.
“The teams played tough games. We ultimately lost to the Crisis Crushers, but we’ll learn from the loss and return stronger next year,” Deputy Chief Thomas Rowan said. “Congratulations to all the competitors.”
Director Lakomiak said that although the teams are naturally competitive, the event is primarily about building camaraderie among county organizations. “It was wonderful to step away from our serious roles for an evening of laughter, celebration and genuine fun with our own teams and colleagues from other community systems. That mix of competition and good humor is rare, and every team brought it.”
Munson Township Fire attended in case medical assistance was needed, but no injuries occurred. Members said they plan to field a team next year.
